Bruce was a natural first tenor and a dedicated Off Sounder, who with bass Hans Horning, would travel from New Haven to Old Greenwich, an hour drive on a good day, every Monday night for rehearsal. Bruce had a secret for hitting those high notes, a nip of Scotch now and then. The group was so grateful to our New Haven contingent that we performed many gigs there at nursing homes and the New Haven Lawn Club. We even hosted a Spring Sing at Yale, with a noted guest group, The Whiffenpoofs. We didn’t mind traveling to New Haven so long as we ended the evening singing in the back room of Modern Pizza!
