Noteworthy is a no fella a cappella vocal jazz group founded in 1978 by two graduates of Smith College. Members span ages, careers and musical experiences. Auditions and talent aside, membership is conditioned on an abiding commitment to Noteworthy’s stellar history, sisterhood and the joy music delivers. The energy in the group comes from weekly rehearsals rich in food, wine and chocolate in the comfort of members’ homes. Noteworthy’s musical agility has developed through opportunity–taking the stage at a variety of events and in venues across America-cavernous halls, steaming living rooms in front of blazing fireplaces, parades in pouring raining and radio/TV stations at dawn. Performances at anniversaries, birthdays and holiday parties, in local homes, churches, country clubs, nursing homes, hospitals and community centers showcase Noteworthy’s voices and spirit. Without instruments, vocal harmony is critical and the challenge of arranging contemporary and traditional music for 16 female voices remains the fun, the excitement and musical grandeur Noteworthy delivers.
